Seoul, Korea (November 13, 2013) – One of the world’s most legendary pop musicians Stevie Wonder is confirmed to perform at the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), announced Asia’s No. 1 Content Company CJ E&M today. Wonder expressed interest in participating in the show based on his deep interest in the theme of 2013 MAMA, ‘Music Makes One’

Stevie Wonder has demonstrated his genius musical talent to the world with numerous beloved hits such as ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’, ‘Part Time Lover’, ‘Lately’, and ‘Isn’t She Lovely’. He is one of the most influential artists in the Korean music industry with his song ‘Lately’ the most remade song by Korean artists. In 2010, Stevie Wonder shattered all attendance records for the Gymnastic Stadium in Seoul Korea’s Olympic Park, selling out the venue in under 30 minutes to over 10,000 fans.

American singer, songwriter, composer, musician, and producer, Stevie, is a celebrated and prominent figure in popular music, who at the age of 13, was the youngest recording artist to have achieved a #1 single with “Fingertips, Part 2”, and subsequently the first to simultaneously reach #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, R&B Singles and Album Charts.  To date he has amassed 49 Top Forty singles, 32 #1 singles and worldwide sales of over 100 million units.  Stevie has won 25 Grammy Awards, the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. In 1983, Stevie spearheaded the realization of “Martin Luther King Day” as a national holiday.  His participation in the 1985 “We Are The World” fundraiser for hunger in Africa was a music industry milestone. Stevie is a Commander of France’s National Order of Arts and Letters and is a designated U.N. Messenger of Peace with special focus on persons with disabilities. He continues to be pivotal in U.S. and world events, demonstrating the activism that has made him such a vital voice for social progress and world serenity.

During his performance at 2013 MAMA, Wonder’s desire is to promote peace and harmony in Asia and sing for those who know that love is the key.

Shin Hyung Kwan, Head Executive of 2013 MAMA remarked, “As Stevie Wonder’s appearance this year demonstrates, 2013 MAMA is much more than a simple music awards show, but a true festival uniting Asia through music and culture, and promoting a message of hope throughout the world.”

Far more than a year-end music awards ceremony, MAMA is Asia’s premier music festival acclaimed by fans around the world for its advanced stage production and mega-scale performances. It also has been instrumental in introducing Korea’s high-end production system to global audiences. MAMA’s origins trace back to 1999 and the Mnet KM Music Festival (MKMF), an awards show instrumental at the time in leading the growth of the Korean music industry. In 2009, MKMF was renamed the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), and in 2010, the festival started its Asian tour in Macau. Last year’s MAMA was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Hong Kong.
