Seoul, Korea (November 13, 2013) – Worldwide music sensations and rising pop stars Ylvis and Icona Pop are slated to perform at 2013 MAMA, announced Asia’s No. 1 Content Company CJ E&M today. In past years, MAMA has absorbed the attention of global music fans with sensational high-end performances by top-class stars, such as will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Snoop Dogg, and Dr Dre in 2011; and B.o.B and Adam Lambert in 2012. This year’s slate, with Ylvis and Icona Pop and many others, promises to be no exception.

Composed of brothers Vegard Ylvisaker and Bard Ylvisaker, Ylvis is Norway’s hottest male duo who entered public awareness with their enormously popular and witty You Tube music videos. In particular, the comedy duos online hit ‘The Fox (What Does the Fox Say)’ has won a wide following by arousing the public’s interest and curiosity.

Swedish female electronic duo Icona Pop is a newly rising music icon. One amazing party in Stockholm brought two fabulous girls, Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt together, and the electrifying pop sensation was born. Icona Pop’s hit single, ‘I Love It ft. Charli XCX’ has reached #1 on Billboard’s New Artist Charts, #6 on Digital and #7 on the Hot 100. It has topped more than 5 million sales worldwide and achieved platinum status in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland and South Korea; two times platinum in the US; three times platinum in Sweden; four times platinum in Canada; five times platinum in Australia; and gold in the UK, Netherlands and Norway. ‘THIS IS… ICONA POP’, their highly anticipated international debut album, was written and recorded all over the globe during their worldwide adventures since becoming international pop-stars. With a handful of some of the most innovative producers around, the duo has created one of the most exciting and interesting pop album of the year.

A CJ E&M official remarked, “Ylvis and Icona Pop are both truly rising pop icons in their own rights, leading pop trends with their unique appeals. Their presence at 2013 MAMA is sure to add flavor, spice and excitement to what promises to be the best MAMA ever.”

Entering its 5th year, 2013 MAMA promises to showcase fantastic performances at the Asia-World Expo, Arena in Hong Kong. This year, leading Hong Kong entertainment company Media Asia serves as Co-Executive Producer, while China’s top broadcaster Hunan TV and Hong Kong’s largest private broadcaster TVB join as media partners. In addition, China’s largest online portal Youku Tudou, a site that over 450 million users visit every month, serves as online partner. In total, 2013 MAMA will be broadcast to 93 countries in five continents, including Asia, Europe, North America, Africa, and Oceania, reaching 240 million people around the world.

Far more than a year-end music awards ceremony, MAMA is Asia’s premier music festival acclaimed by fans around the world for its advanced stage production and mega-scale performances. It also has been instrumental in introducing Korea’s high-end production system to global audiences. MAMA’s origins trace back to 1999 and the Mnet KM Music Festival (MKMF), an awards show instrumental at the time in leading the growth of the Korean music industry. In 2009, MKMF was renamed the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), and in 2010, the festival started its Asian tour in Macau. Last year’s MAMA was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Hong Kong.
