The “Gaysorn Christmas Village” decoration was inspired by the most popular holiday on the ancient Roman calendar called Saturnalia, a winter solstice festival. The beauty of such culture has been brought to unravel and convey to the story of a place known as Gaysorn Village where the Craftmasters live, surrounded by fields of colorful flowers and butterflies which carry pollens around making Gaysorn Village bloom all year round. But, the butterflies of this village are no ordinary (try asking the Florist, she knows best!). They are magical creatures which create every year-end phenomenon bringing all villagers to celebrate together.
The Perfumer, with huge excitement of the phenomenon, explains Gaysorn Village’s tradition that on the night before Christmas, the butterflies would carry pollens from every flower around the village to the mysterious cave (known as the Butterfly Cave) located at the heart of the village where the magical substance and signature scent would be created; fusing Gaysorn Village with beautiful scent and happiness all year round.
The people of Gaysorn Village, who are the master of many crafts, celebrate the phenomenon by using their own expertise in the aroma candle making with the scent blended by the Perfumer. The candles would be lit at many locations around the village as to guide the butterflies towards the Butterfly Cave during the night. The light also served as the symbol of hope and soul regeneration for next year.
Not far from the Butterfly Cave is the Candle Square, the centre of the village; it is a popular and merry place where the villagers come together with their candles. This forms the collaborative tradition which the Craftmasters would assemble their many candles of various shapes and sizes into one gigantic Christmas tree sculpture that fuses the air with beautiful scent calling everyone to join the dance around the tree and exchange gifts at the square.
Apart from the candle light and signature scent, the colour of Christmas is painted by the Tailor who decorates everywhere with wonderful fabrics of numerous patterns and prints in black & white theme, despite that, she brushes the joyous liveliness all over the village. The taste of Christmas was made by the duo; the Glass Maker and the Baker, serving the special village recipe at the COCOON – decorated by the Craftmasters’ candle sculptures, this gathering spot is made ready for mingling, entertaining and music that would put everyone in a relaxing mood before starting the new year.
Salin Lamsam said, “When it comes to Christmas, I’ll always think of the Christmas tree. As today, when coming to Gaysorn Village I already felt the festive moments. Since I’ve been away from this celebration for a long time, it’s quite refreshing to be able to enjoy it again. Normally, during this festive moment, I spend time with my friends and daughter. And this year’s Christmas, I’ve planned to watch the fireworks at Chao Phraya River and eat delicious food with my friends and daughter.”
Piyawadee Maleenont added, “Actually, I’m planning on where to go and what to do for Christmas because I’m a person who likes this festival very much. And since we’ll caught up in this COVID situation for too long, we somehow forget to celebrate. This year, if there’re any Christmas event like Gaysorn Village, I will definitely go there and enjoy the moment. My favorite activities during this festive season, is for sure exchanging gifts because I like the excitement and surprises. Which for these special occasions, I’ll always bring my husband and friends with me always.”
Akararat Wannarat said, ”This year is the first year that I have truly celebrated Christmas. People started planning to travel abroad but I didn’t plan ahead so I’ll probably stay in Thailand, organize a trip with my friends, maybe Khao Yai, Huahin, or northern region. The weather seems to be really good. I really want to travel in Thailand, it probably changed a lot in the past 2-3 years, definitely more places to explore.”
Chavanon Caisiri said, “We have a group of friends planning a trip to Japan for Christmas. intending to patrol and eat our favorite food, after lockdown for a long time. Go for a walk to see the festival, watch the lights, take pictures of the beautiful Christmas tree, and will probably return near the end of the year for the countdown and organize a lovely event at home with friends and family.”
